Olá, olá. Tricot, parte II. Vermelho. Para usar perto do coração.

Hi. Knitting, part II. Red. To wear close to  the heart.

Licença para tricotar/License to knit

Hi. This past year has been more about knitting than recycling.

Fiquem bem.

Those of you who knit know that it can be addictive. So much so that I (almost) forgot the photos, the blog, the facebook page. However I do miss it all, so I will try to let go of the needles and yarns for long enough to grab the camera and show you my needlecrafts.
See you soon. Be well.

Olá. Novo projecto. (R)evolução. Sonho(s) sempre.

Hi. New projects. (R)evolution. Dreams, always.

Hi. They say that to everything there is a season. A time to sow. A time to harvest. A time to wait. A time to act. A time to stay. A time to go. A time to fight for our dreams. A time to search within ourselves if those are still our dreams, if they are still worth it or if it is time to change. To let go of what is weighing us down and keeping us to move forward. To keep only the important things. The things that we need for a better life. For us and our loved ones. Even if it is just a smile. A hug. Warmth.

Lentamente. Envolvemo-nos em véus aconchegantes.
Umas vezes sozinhos num cantinho do nosso mundo...

In Nature, Fall season is the symbol of the release of dry and lifeless leaves. A way of making space for the new things that are to come. Space for rebirth. Gently. Under a golden light that tells us that this the time. And we prepare ourselves. Slowly. Wrapping ourselves in a cozy veils.
Sometimes simply alone in a little corner of our world ...

...  or outside, sharing a simple park bench, aged  by the sun, the wind and the rain.

Aproveitem a estação dourada. Fiquem bem.

Choose the situation that is closest to what you are feeling at that particular moment. Enjoy the golden season.
Be well.

E as mãos. Sempre elas. Enrolam, torcem, puxam, tecem. Texturas ainda leves. Afinal  a estação dourada ainda agora está no início...

Hi. The falling leaves, the wind that makes window drapes flutter, the rain that slowly starts to come down from the sky. But also the golden light, temperatures inviting the hot tea (or chocolate). Autumn is here (at least here in the northern hemisphere) and we change (or return to old) habits. Arts of yesterday but always anew. Yarns, richer or simple, colorful or less so. Needles, straight, circular, made out of metal, wood, or of something else entirely. And the hands. Always. Twisting, spinning, pulling, knitting. Textures that are still light. After all the golden season is just in its beggining...

Fiquem bem.

... e beginnings mean that you still have time. Time to adjust. To know where you want to go. What you want to do. Golden times can be exactly that. Golden. Be well.

Imitation of life

Olá, olá. Alguns projectos craft mimetizam a vida.
E acabou assim:

Hi. Some crafts mimic life. An initial plan/idea. The search for means to make it work. Building begins. The resources (available or absent) frequently force us to change course. Not everything runs smoothly in the process. Several stops along the way. Setbacks. Deconstruction. Reconstruction. New ideas. New zest. Finally a (more or less coherent) shape - just a glimpse. We like it. First phase concluded - 1st happy ending. Next step: enjoying that thing imagined and built, by us and for ourselves, from something that so may people regard as worthless.
That was more or less what happened with the following piece. It started like this. And it turned out this way:

A minha nova lunchbag.

My new lunchbag.

Fuxicos, embalagens de café recicladas, cordão e tira de nylon.

Yo-yo's, recycled coffee bags, silk cord and a nylon strap.

Uma inspiração para refeições mais saudáveis...

An inspiration to take healthier meals...

... não acham?

... don't you think?

Regresso / Coming back

This has been a year with a little less blog. Not necessarily less work. But with a little bit more knitting and less recycling crafts. A lot of stops. Some episodes of lack of inspiration in between. But the crafting "bug" is still here and to demonstrate it here is a craft much in this back-to-school-season spirit.

Uma lancheira reciclada. Primeira experiência com fuxicos.

A recycled insulated lunchbag. First try at making yo-yo's.

Estava um bocadinho "maltratada" e resolvi "animá-la"...

It was somewhat "mistreated" and I decided to "uplift" it ...

... e gostei do resultado. E vocês?

... and I liked it. Do you?

Eco-fita / Eco-ribbon

E, assim, aqui fica o primeiro resultado:

Hi. Every year (usually in late Abril or beginning of May) I get requests to sign academic ribbons. As one would expect, I tend to customize all the ribbons that I sign. Believe me when I say that (at least for me) it is trully a challenge - working in such a small surface (and in satiny fabric no less...). Since May had already come and gone, I thought that this year there would be no need to apply myself to that task. Never was I so wrong because within the same week not one but two requets came my way. So there I went again on my quest for fabric paints, "microbrushes" and, most of all, for inspiration. And so here is the first result:

Fiquem bem.

A special request of a proud cousin of motorcycle fan newly graduate in Renewable Energies. I hope you like it - you and both of them :))
Be well.

Curiosidade / Curiosity

Então experimentem agora e digam-me lá o que vai sair daqui:

Hi. Have you ever felt like a cat? Overflowing with curiosity? With a tingling on your brain cells trying to figure out what's going on? Restless and anxious like children in front of a present wrapped with a huge red bow? NO?!!! Then give it a try now and tell me what will this turn into:

;)))

Publicada / Published

Hi. I've been away for so long that I forgot to celebrate the blog's (1st) aniversary. But better late than never so here's the celebration. And just a little something, together with the almost eleven thousand visits - my first publication in a magazine. It took almost a year but it tastes sweet nevertheless.

Lembram-se disto?

Remember this?

Então celebrem comigo este primeiro aniversário do meu/nosso blog, sorriam, criem e sejam positivos. Fiquem bem.

So celebrate with me the aniversary of my/your blog, smile, create and stay positive. And be well.

Transbordar / Overflow

Olá. olá. Longa a minha ausência. Muitas saudades.

Hi. Long absence. Missed you all a lot. Sometimes the work is hard and the weariness too much. And suddenly the pot overflows...

... uma vez...

... once...

... e outra vez...

... and again...

... until at some point all those waves join, stop being isolated ripples and form a lake of harmony.

And after finally arriving at that tranquil "oasis" we can head off to new projects ;=) Be well.

No BananaCraft / Featured on BananaCraft

Fiquem atentos ;)

Hi. Just passing by to let you know that one of my projects has been featured on BananaCraft, the super-inspired website of Danielle. I'll be back soon with more news. Stay tuned ;)

Vermelho especial / Red special

Deixem a criatividade fluir e apreciem o processo.

Hi. Creating is something that always elevates us. Whatever the form that creation may assume. Writing, sculpting, painting, drawing, photographing and a thousand things more. It is an indescribable feeling when, after that first crude and (almost) shapeless (or senseless) idea, we get to an (almost) unexpected result that surprises us because it came out of our hands (and head. Do try whenever you can. Choose what you like best and go for it. Very important: forget destructive self-criticism. Let your creativity flow and enjoy the process. Use dark colors if you like. Or if you're in a more colorful mood use strong colors. Or better still mix the two. And by the way, do you know what's the icing on the cake? It's when that creativity/creation is supported by someone special to you. Reciprocate if you can and turn the result of that inspiration into an gift. A special someone deserves something special.

That's what I've done. Specially for you my dear, thanks for your support and inspiration. Hope you like it...

Aconchego / Cosiness

Hi. Here I am again in my organizing saga, threads and wool phase. But as I said before, organizing should be fun and have a more beautiful result than just tidy drawers and shelves. This time and for me that meant more free space AND a project that united my two favourite "arts": recycling (although this one involves several "arts") and knitting. Starting (as always) with recycling.

So this was the packaging with the design based on my new logo...

... and this was the (knitted) piece that went inside. A little twist on the "traditional"  basketweave pattern.

It took me a while but was worth it. Cosiness and a touch of warmth for a special and so cute baby boy...

A huge kiss to you my darling Ivo.

Hi. Each new year traditionally we adopt a lot of (new) resolutions. A very common one is to improve our organizational skills. Of our paper files, our homes, our lives in general. So much to organize, so little time. Feels like giving up even before starting anything isn't it? How about  taking the opportunity to do something we like in the process? Getting better, getting better :-) I've already talked about this here. Now instead of the newspaper/magazine "pile" I "attacked" the threads, skeins, yarns and wool "mount". First, everything was directed to a nice little basket.

At the same time I've started some knitting projects, which is one of my passions in the handmade realm. Then I realized that the little basket was not enough because I found more yarns. To give you an idea it's more or less double the hanks and skeins. Before showing you the completed pieces (in finishing phase) here is an example of the base material.

My inspiração started to leap at the sight of these colors. What about you - have you thought about what would transform your organizing maneuvres into something fun? Do tell, I'm really curious :-)

Lindo / Beautiful

Hi. And suddenly 2012 arrived. Let's leave 2011 behind with all its not so positive things, learn with them and keep close to our hearts only the best things. For me one of those is this blog and you my new (and "old") friends that followed me on this adventure. Back in February, when I started, I wasn't completely sure to be able to set up this little cyberspace corner and now, less than a year later, it had over 8,500 visits and over 30 followers! AMAZING! Things can only get better from now on, don't you think? Because the so much debated money crisis doesn't necessarily mean crisis of ideas, of sharing and of beautiful things. So, to start this year with something really beatiful I'm sharing with you one of my favourite poems written by a great portuguese author, Eugénio de Andrade, and called "Penniless Lovers".

Beautiful isn't it? If you would like to know more about the author you can check it out here. Have a great 2012 :-)

Logotipo novo / New Logo

Hi. This has been a busy end-of-year. Several works in progress, a lot of ideas and other news that I'll be sharing with you soon (hopefully). One of them I can show right now. As you can see on the top of the page I (finally) have a new logo.

Fiquem bem.

After some serious brainstorming with the designer, I think we've achieved a clean and simple, just like I wanted. Other (good) news will follow, so be sure to come and visit me again soon. Be well.

L'Amour

Hi. In my last post I've mentioned meditation. Although there are several different ways to achieve it, basically it's a pratice (yes it takes practice) that requires us to abstract ourselves for a moment from the "noise" around us and to concentrate ourselves in a particular stimulus - breathing, word(s), diagram, image. This allows us to escape the mental (and sometimes physical) confusion and regain the tranqulity that is (or at least it should be) natural to us. The benefits are obvious from the improved ability of problem solving to a simply more attentive way of seeing the best things in life that allows us to fully enjoy it. Naturally this is comes with a positive attitude, not only towards the exterior but also towards ourselves. Now that the year is ending which means religious festivities and/or the "auditing" of what was/was not done, something is (or should be) shared by all. Regardless of your wallet size, where you live, name and where you come from. Something that binds and involves us all. Love. Simply. Think about it. And if you'd like to experiment with mediation, try using this.

Espero que ajude e que gostem. Fiquem bem.
Hope it helps and that you like it. Be well.

Mandala Azul / Blue Mandala

Hi. So much noise on the streets, radio, newspapers, TV. Suddenly we find ourselves searching for a haven. A garden, a church, our home, a little corner of our loving room, a beautiful painting. It's true, a painting, simple or elaborate, may bring us joy, peace, happy memories, so many good things. Because of the colors, materials used, the author or because we've painted it ourselves or for another personal reasons. Art therapy? Maybe. The very name brings about good feelings don't you think?

To think that a work of art may help us forget, even briefly, the colleague that plotted against us at the office, the boss that didn't appreciate our work, the rude guy that crashed into our car early in the morning. It doesn't have to be an extremely expensive painting like the ones sold at auctions for millions. Just a scribble on the notepad, on an inspired and surprising day may be enough.

In my case that art therapy process starts by me looking at the makeshift recycling station in my kitchen, goes through the scribbles of probable (and some more improbable) ideas, initiaitng several projects (almost) at the same time and then grabbing the one that captures me in that moment. The end product is not always what I'd initially envisioned and has to be abandoned:( But there are some other (fortunate) moments when I start out with something like this...

... e crio algo como isto...
... and create something like this...

A blue mandala done with a lot of joy can only be full of positive energies, don't you think? I believe that that is the main requirement for using it in meditation (by me or by any of you). Don't know what meditation is? I'll explain next time;) Be well.
