SOS

Olá. Aposto que já todas(os) nós já tivemos, em alguma altura da vida, dificuldade em encontrar um presente para um amigo. E amigo aqui refere-se ao sexo masculino mesmo. A tarefa ainda é mais complicada quando o destinatário é o mais simples/sóbrio possível e, para completar o "ramalhete" sofre terrivelmente de alergias. Ou seja, eliminam-se de uma só vez as tradicionais possibilidades como oferecer um perfumezinho ou um cachecol quentinho. Depois de muito dar voltas à cabeça e de observar atentamente quais os objectos que poderiam ser um sonho de consumo, finalmente consegui! O material ainda tentou rebelar-se contra mim (lembram-se do meu desabafo?) mas, depois, tudo se compôs. Em vez de vos mostrar já o resultado vou desafiar-vos a adivinhar o que saiu de "dentro da caixa".

Hi. I bet we all had, at some time in our lives, difficulties to find a present for a friend. And here I mean for male friend. The task is even more complicated when the recipient is as unostentatious/unpretentious as can be. And on top of this suffers terribly from allergies. So there goes the traditional perfume or the cozy scarf. After some brainstorming and unconspicuous "spying" to find out what would be his consumer's dreams, I've finally got it! The materials rebelled a little (remember my disappointment?) but in the end everything was fine. Instead of showing you the final result I'm challenging you to guess what "came out of the box".

4 basics

Nas minhas navegações na net tenho visto trabalhos lindíssimos. É bom ver que nem tudo gira à volta da crise, das flutuações económicas e jogadas da alta finança. Há pessoas com imenso talento e criatividade, capazes de criar verdadeiras obras de arte a partir de material simples/barato/reciclado. Gostei especialmente dos trabalhos que reciclam CDs para fazer mandalas. As mandalas envolvem uma arte ancestral de dedicação, paciência e espiritualidade que se traduz em criações lindíssimas e, segundo algumas tradições culturais, cheias de significado. Confesso que sempre pensei que me ficaria apenas pela admiração mas nunca pela criação de nenhuma. Ah, nunca é bom dizer-se "nunca" :) Especialmente quando se fala em reciclagem... E, assim, surgiu a mandala verde. Os experts dizem que quando se começa a fazer mandalas não se consegue parar, é viciante. E não é que é mesmo! Tendo como tema de base os 4 elementos (terra, fogo, água e ar) cheguei a isto:

On my web surfing I've seen amazing work. It's good to know that not everything is about the recession, economic ups and downs and high finance juggling. There are lots of immenselly talented people out there, capable of creating true works of art from simple/cheap/recycled materials. I've specially liked pieces made from recycling old CDs to create mandalas. Mandalas involve an ancestral art of dedication, patience, and spirituality that results in extremelly beautiful creations and, according to some cultural traditions, full of meaning. To be honest I thought that I would always stay on the admiring side of mandalas, never on the creating side. Ah, never say "never":) Specially when it comes to recycling... And so the green mandala was created. Experts say that once you start creating mandalas you can't stop, it's addicting. And so it is! Having the 4 elements (earth, fire, water and air) as a base theme, I got to this:

Espreitadela / Sneak peek

Olá, olá. Tenho andado (literalmente) desaparecida em combate. Muita coisa a acontecer (quase) ao mesmo, as mãos não chegam para tudo e infelizmente este cantinho da blogosfera fica para trás. Ainda assim estou super-feliz: alguns trabalhos estão na fase final, outros estão a aguardar uns retoques, outros ainda encontram-se em passagem de esquiço a projecto em execução. Um acabei há muito poucas horas. É quase um segredo mas vou levantar uma pontinha do véu...

Hello there. I've been (litterally) missing in action. A lot is happening, the hands are unable to grasp every single thing and unfortunatelly my little blogosphere corner is left behind for a while. Nevertheless I am really happy: some pieces are on the final stage, others are awaiting small touches here and there, others stilll are being transformed from drafts to real projects. I've finished one  just a few hours ago. This one is (almost) a secret but I'll just unveil a little bit of it...

Mandala verde / Green mandala

Depois de alguns dias "desinspirados", começou a entrar um bocadinho de luz no meu cantinho. Se se lembram da minha última mensagem, eu estava quase "bloqueada" pela confusão instalada na minha mesa de trabalho. Não pela confusão em si mas por aquele tipo especial de confusão não me inspirar de todo. Mas de repente decidi pensar "fora da caixa". Fazer algo que nunca tinha feito. Utilizar cores que raramente utilizo. Misturar materiais que nem sempre combinam. Após algumas dúvidas e ideias iniciais pouco claras, cheguei finalmente a isto:

After a few uninspired days, a little light came shining in. If you remember my last post, I was almost blocked by the mess on my work table. Not because of the mess but because that particular mess did not inspire me at all. But suddenly I decided to think out of the box. Do something I had never done before. Use colors that I seldom use. Mix materials that don't always match. After some doubts and unclear first thoughts on the matter, I finally got to this:

Num(ns) dia(s) cinzento(s), reciclei um bocadinho, pintei um bocadinho de verde, pintalguei com um nadinha de glitter e, lentamente, entrou um tímido raio de sol. Resultado? Um sorriso aberto e o regresso ao meu (por uns tempos esquecido) caderno de esboços/ideias. Estou de volta ;)

In a (few) really grey day(s), I recycled a little, painted a little green, splashed some glitter and slowly a very shy ray of light came in. The outcome?  A big smile and the return to my (for a while forgotten)sketchbook. I'm back ;)

Sem inspiração / Uninspired

Há dias assim. Tudo cinzento. Temporal lá fora. Mesa em caos. Zero ideias. Sem inspiração. À minha frente, apenas isto:

There are days like this. Dark grey all over. Storm outside. Zero ideas. Uninspired. In front of me layed this:

O que fazer com isto?... Antes - muitas ideias. Hoje - tudo nublado como o tempo lá fora. Mas... lentamente... Muito lentamente... No início, muito desfocado... Depois, mais nítido... Fiquem atentos para ver o que aconteceu a esta confusão ;)

What to do with this?... Before - a lot of ideas. Today - all is cloudy just like the weather outside. But slowly... Very, very slowly... Blurry at first... Then a little clearer... Stay tuned to see what became of this mess ;) 

Restyling

Olá, olá. Não tenho sido muito assídua aqui no blog (pelo menos em relação a posts) mas estes últimos dias têm sido de grande actividade. Acabei mais umas peças (prometo mostrar em breve). O Concurso Artes Artesanais também trouxe algo de novo (mais um mistério a desvendar daqui a mais uns tempos). Criei uma página no Facebook para quem me quiser seguir por lá também, "gostar" e partilhar com os amigos. E, por fim, como já puderam constatar, fiz um pequeno restyling neste meu/vosso cantinho da rede. Espero que gostem e continuem a visitar-me por aqui. Em breve trago mais umas coisas giras para vos mostrar.

Hello there. I haven't  been very assiduous on the blog lately (regarding to posts, that is) but these last few days have been full of activity. I've finished some more pieces (promise to show them to you soon). The National Craft Arts Contest also brought something new (another mistery to be unveiled in a little while). I've opened a page on Facebook for those who would like to follow, like and share with friends there. And finally, as you can see, I've done a small restyling of my/your little place of the world wide web. I hope you like it and keep coming up to visit me. I'll bring some new goodies to show you soon.
